Coriolanus

The wreck of the British HMS Coriolanus (with I, not Coreolanus is written as often!) Is among divers for the Austrian (Habsburg) "Baron Gautsch the second most popular wreck of the northern Adriatic. Unlike the "Baron Gautsch   this wreck is relatively little known. Relatively certain is that there appear to be in a secret mission before the Yugoslav coast, where it was dropped just days before the war.

Saturday, 5. May 1945:

Capitulate, in Denmark and Holland, the German troops. The Americans move into Linz and face Berchtesgaden - Twilight of the Gods for the millennium ... the war in Europe is already within reach.Coriolanus_02

On the Adriatic, the war was also almost over, Tito's partisans have driven the German occupation troops from the country and now build their communist regime on the new State Union of Yugoslavia (translated: South-Slavia)
On this day a small, inconspicuous trawler of the English Navy run  six miles off the west coast of Istria, along the north.
Sometime that day the people  on the coast of Novigrad  heard a dull distant bang.. The trawler was stranded on a mine and sank quickly. Too much importance to the country no one wants to  judge  bang  and no one wants trouble in this time, aware of acts of revenge-obsessed time to notice much, or too much ...

What had happened?

The HMS Coriolanus was with an unknown last job in the north. Likely to listen to the radio traffic at around Trieste. Italy and Yugoslavia laid claim to the territory of Trieste. Here we would like to but even become a free state. The political situation deteriorated in this important Adriatic port to also!

The Coriolanus is - for whatever reason - as a Croatian cultural monument, which means that they only dive with a special license and with an "extra fee" - may be visited. The wreck is upright on the 30-meter-deep sand and mud bottom, and while descending from the buoy line - which is usually attached to the superstructure in Bugnähe - can be seen - depending on perspective - from about 10 meters depth, the contours of the wreck. As in any wreck  it is also a rather shy Conger (Conger) of enormous size of his home and under the fuselage there is at least a superb lobster. A thick layer of mussel shells covered the floors of galleries. Beautiful large specimens - perhaps derived from larvae of the mussel farms in the Lim Fjord?
The lamp can be discovered in many places well camouflaged scorpion fish that have chosen quite cheeky and confident in their camouflage the best seats.
In the superstructure there is a large swarm of hake, if not just too much dive operation in this wreck.
